GTS World Racing Review
The iPod touch and iPhones accelerometer makes for some very interesting games from taking a ball to the end of a maze to an intense fast paced race taking place around the world. If the second of those got your attention then this is the app for you.
Presentation:
The graphics are not the best on the ipod touch especially compared to other Astraware games but the amount of places to race and unique environments of each one make up for that. Each car has its own sleek design but a small amount of cars and zero customization take it down a notch. The other effects such as kicked up dust add a nice touch, the music is fast paced and gets you in the game and the screeching tires and such sound surprisingly realistic.
Controls:
The controls are accelerometer based you accelerate, brake and reverse by pushing forward and backward and steer by turning your ipod. The controls are very creative and I enjoyed using them very much although it occasionly doesn't work and you cant push your ipod in very far before the game claims that your flat and you have to pull your ipod back. With a little practice you can pull off large manuevers like power slides and side swiping other cars.
Game Play:
A couple of things I love about this game are that you can quit anytime you want and come back right where you left off. The game features a single player and a multiplayer head to head mode over Wi-FI. The single player has 4 game modes -Single Race,Challenge Cup,Grand Tour and Championship and four difficulties to play on.
Single Race: A quick race, pick your track and car then race for somebody looking for a quick gameplay session
Challenge Cup: Play through sixteen races taking a certain place each time. Make it through all the races and take the cup
Grand Tour: Same as Challenge Cup with a whole 64 races, certainly for the hard core racer
Championship: Complete a Qualyfing race to determine where you start and finish then go through 16 heated races.
Suggestions:
A large amount of cars and/or the option to choose the colors for your car is important. More racetracks in future updates are needed. An alternative touch control scheme would make this a must play.
Conclusion:
Another great Astraware game, although lacking in places Astraware often excels in. The game offers a whole load of replay value and is plenty of fun. The price could use some lowering and is going to make some gamers walk away but in the matter of racing this is a fast paced thrill ride I couldn't get enough of.
